Global Compact

Topdanmark is a part of the United Nations Global Compact, which promotes human rights, protects the environment and fights corruption.

Global Compact principles
A business supporting Global Compact should:

  1. Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights 
  2. Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses
  3. Uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining
  4. Support the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour 
  5. Support the effective abolition of child labour 
  6. Eliminate the discrimination in respect of employment and occupation 
  7. Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges
  8. Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility 
  9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies
  10. Work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery

More on the UN Global Compact

  • Global Compact is the world's largest voluntary CSR initiative for businesses and organisations
  • Around 9,000 businesses and 135 organisations are signatories to the UN Global Compact. The goal for the UN is to get the support of 20,000 businesses and organisations by 2020.
  • Around 2,000 businesses have been struck off the UN Global Compact list due to failure to submit annual reports
  • The core of the UN Global Compact is ten basic principles based on internationally adopted conventions on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption
  • The purpose is to inspire businesses to contribute voluntarily to resolving the global social and environmental challenges
  • Signing up to the UN Global Compact is free of charge, but businesses are invited to make donations
  • The UN Global Compact makes a wide range of tools available to businesses supporting the initiative
