Less single-use plastic

In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on the negative environmental consequences of disposable plastic, especially when it ends up in nature. Topdanmark has decided to also reduce the use of single-use plastic items - both in the canteen and in other operations.

Phasing out single-use plastic

The work of phasing out single-use plastic was started in 2018, and we are continuously focusing on new initiatives that can help reduce our use of single use items.

We have already made several different initiatives, among other things, all new employees get a personal ceramic cup made by Danish designers and a thermo water bottle. This means less use of disposable cups in the offices and in the cafe. The Cafe, which is run by the canteen, serves delicious freshly made barista coffee every day. If the employees bring their own cup, they save DKK 5 per cup of coffee.

Little strokes fell great oaks

The decision to drop disposable plastic items may be seen as a small change and somewhat insignificant change. But looking at the results, Topdanmark previously used over 340,000 plastic items each year, but since the initiative started the reduction has been quite impressive.

Facts

Since 2018, we have reduced our use of single-use plastic items with 85 %

Disposable plastic in operation

In the operation of our office facilities, we have also put a lot of effort into the fight against disposable plastic. Here, too, we have seen a positive development that testifies that our initiatives have substantial effect. Where we cannot outface disposable items entirely, we have replaced necessary disposable plastic elements with biodegradable units.

In our work to reduce disposable plastic, we work based on Sustainable Development Goal 12.5 By 2030, waste generation must be significantly reduced through prevention, reduction, recycling, and recycling.
