We have focused on sustainability in our own house for a long time. We have also focused on sustainability with our suppliers and in our investment activities. Now it’s time to focus on our business customers and ensure that sustainability and responsibility are integrated in their business. This decision is a positive extension of the fact that we already have exclusions of certain industries in our insurance activity, just as we also have it in our investment activities, among other things in terms of production of coal, tar sands, controversial weapons, and tobacco.

We have established a procedure for screening of our business and agricultural customers to ensure compliance with the UN Global Compact principles. The UN Global Compact principles are ten principles that applies to human rights, anti-corruption, climate, and environment. To begin with, we will be screening our current customers, but in the long term we will investigate how we can include screening pro-actively in connection with sale and renewal of insurance policies.

Topdanmark’s business customer portfolio primarily consists of small- and medium sized businesses in Denmark, therefore we expect a low rate of non-compliance among our business customers. Nonetheless, we wish to be able to make demands to our business customers regarding good governance.
